Vascular Rehabilitation

The diseases of the lower limbs for which therapeutic intervention is needed include a vast range of diseases that cause stenosis or occlusion of the lume of the venous or arterial vessel, stopping the flow of blood in the tissue and causing – for the individuals that suffer from it – pain and ulcerations of toes and leg.

Efficient cycles of vascular rehabilitation in Veneto are done at the renowned Bibione thermal spa.

At the Bibione thermal spa important longitudinal epidemiological studies have been launched by the Surgical Clinic of the University of Padua, both for vascular and arterial diseases, which have further confirmed the validity of thermal spa therapy.

Among the diseases of the lower limbs we have the aftereffects of chronic phlebitis, chronic venous insufficiency, the outcome or aftereffects of surgery and varices. In addition to an effective vascular rehabilitation, the thermal spa offer ozonotherapy in special individual tubs with hydro massage and a series of complementary treatments like pressotherapy and lymphatic drainage massages.

RECOMMENDED TREATMENTS

Vascular rehabilitation programme with hydro massage

Hydrotherapy exploits the physical properties of water, like the temperature – which must be below body temperature, since hot water accentuates venous dilation — and the pressure — whose beneficial action on the surface of the skin can be increased by the hydro massage in the tubs.

The vascular programme consists in walking through an 80 cm high pool for a period of 20 minutes with fluorated sodium bicarbonate-alkaline water at differentiated temperature, alternating between the tubs at 34°C and 24°C.

Ozonised hydro massage in individual tub

The 03 gas (ozone) is made to gurgle with the jets of spring water in the individual tubs where it solubilises into oxygen at the state of origin. This encourages the absorption of 02 (oxygen) by the skin. The physical effect exercised by the thousands of gas bubbles that hit the body in the spring water produce multiple stimulations, especially vasoactive, with dilation of the arteriole, squeezing of the venous vessels, increase in peripheral circulatory speed and improvement of muscle tone.

Pressotherapy

Pressotherapy consists in the application of inflatable cuffs on the surface of the lower limbs. These exercise different levels of peristaltic pressure and thus offset the pathological venous hypertensions, also allowing reduction of the edema and attenuation of any inflammatory processes.

Manual lymphatic drainage

Lymphatic drainage is a manual pressing process that aids the lymphatic return, encouraging shrinking of the lymphedema. With many pathological conditions, but also when a person is forced to stay in an upright position for a long time, an insufficient lymphatic drainage forms by which the interstitial fluid accumulates on the declivitous parts of the body. If there is stagnant lymphatic fluid, the advised therapy is in fact manual lymphatic drainage.
